Paste a schematic with WorldEdit
Six commands to go from a downloaded .schem file to a build placed in your world.
Before you start
You need WorldEdit installed on the server and operator permissions. If the build is bigger than 150×150 blocks, consider using FAWE instead — covered in the FAWE vs WorldEdit comparison.
1. Put the file in the right folder
Unzip the download and copy the .schem file here:
plugins/WorldEdit/schematics/
On older WorldEdit versions the folder might be called schematics inside
plugins/WorldEdit, or just WorldEdit/schematics. If it doesn’t exist,
create it yourself.
2. Refresh the schematic list
No server restart needed:
//schem list
If your file doesn’t show up, it’s either in the wrong folder or has a different extension.
3. Load the schematic
//schem load filename
No extension. If the file is ashfall-keep.schem, the command is
//schem load ashfall-keep.
4. Stand where you want the build
Wherever you’re standing becomes the paste origin. It’s easier to stand in a corner rather than the center, since that makes it more predictable which direction the build grows.
5. Paste it
//paste -a
The -a skips air blocks in the schematic, so it won’t erase the terrain
already around you. If you want it to paste everything, air included, use
//paste on its own.
6. If something went wrong
//undo
Undoes the last paste. Works several times in a row, so you can back out if you messed up twice.
Common errors
- “Schematic not found” — the name doesn’t match. Check with
//schem list. - The build shows up floating or buried — the schematic’s origin isn’t at
the height you expected. Try
//paste -afrom a different height, or move the selection with//move. - The server freezes while pasting — the build is too big for regular WorldEdit. You need FAWE.
